My Gear
The gear you use has only a partial effect on the resulting photos you take. I get a lot of questions about what gear I used to take my photos, so this is a complete list of everything I use.
And to be complete, here is a photo of what I usually carry in my bag :)
| Canon 5D mark II dslr camera – my new camera. I wanted to go up to a full frame now, having the best ISO performance. I only have it for something around a month, and I’m really happy with it. Only problem is the 3 shots on AEB limit, but the Promote helps with this. | ![]() |
| Canon 16-35mm F2.8 II USM lens | ![]() |
| Canon 24-70mm F2.8 USM lens – currently my most used lens. Stays almost always on my camera. | ![]() |
| Canon 70-200mm F2.8 IS II lens – | |
| Canon Speedlite 580EX II flash – not that I use it for HDR shots, but it’s very useful when taking photos of people | ![]() |
| Promote Control remote – a must for HDR shooters using Canon cameras. Allows for exposures by 1/3 EV step to up to 45shots. | ![]() |
| Manfrotto 190XproB tripod – very versatile and a very stable tripod. Works great, but will probably update to a carbon one | ![]() |
| Manfrotto 496cr2 Compact Ball Head – great about this head is, that it’s quite small. But it also has no special features. Really missing the panoramatic rotation. | ![]() |
| Bubble Level for Camera – 3 Axis - I bought this bubble level a long time ago, but never used it, as I always forget it to take it with me. But when I do, it really helps. Especially when you use a wide angle lens, the lens distortion really makes it hard to have the photo perfectly leveled. And with this it’s absolutely easy. | ![]() |
| Domke F2 Original camera bag – have this one only for a while but I think I will love it. Will add a full review after some time | ![]() |
And this is my backup gear (or you can say photo equipment which I rarely use anymore)
| Canon 450D dslr camera - This was my first dslr camera. Really a great camera to start with. It took some stunning photos. | ![]() |
| Sigma 10-20mm F3.5 lens – great wide-angle lens for a crop sensor camera. And with the quite low aperture it’s really great also for night shots | ![]() |
| Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 MACRO lens - nice standard lens, with the Macro feature great for detail shots | ![]() |
| Sigma 18-200 F3.5-6.3 OS lens – this was my first lens, great if you only want to buy one lens, as it really covers a big range | ![]() |
And just to compare one of the photos taken with the Canon 5D mark II and one from the Canon 450D

sir im new in HDR,.. im just grabbing some photos then trying to make hdr by changing the exposures in photoshop then apply photomatix. i am now saving my money to buy SLR camera. which one would you refer me to buy? and what kind of lens. thanks,..
You can buy anyone. Each DSLR on the market supports RAW and AEB. It’s hard to suggest one, as it is depended on how much money you have to spend, but I would stick to a Canon or Nikon. Same goes for the lens. If you can only buy one, try to buy something universal, like a 18-200mm lens. It’s not the best, but gives you the biggest freedom. I personally started with a Canon 450D and a Sigma 18-200mm lens.
